The History of Engagement Rings

Engagement rings have been used for a long time in history. Precious stones like diamonds have especially been used for making engagement rings for decades. Hundreds of years ago, diamonds were discovered. Initially, they were used to ward off the evil eye. Diamonds were even known to possess special healing powers. Later, diamonds began to be used for making jewellery.

Besides diamonds, many kinds of precious metals and stones have been used for making rings. Platinum and gold have been in use for making engagement rings for a long time. Rings are a common gift across the world. Whenever there is an engagement ceremony, rings are exchanged.

One of the most precious metals used for making engagement rings is platinum. Platinum has a beautiful silver color that is liked by many people. It is a durable and strong metal that is mostly resistant to corrosion. Platinum is popularly used alongside other precious metals like diamond, nowadays. If a ring has a diamond top, then the base is made of platinum. Platinum is a very pure metal and even those who are allergic to other metals can wear it. However, the biggest disadvantage of platinum is that it is very expensive. Platinum is even more expensive than gold or silver, so most people cannot afford it.

On the other hand, a huge difference can be spotted between platinum vs. white gold. Platinum is a pure metal occurring naturally, but white gold does not occur naturally. White gold is an alloy or a mixture of more than one metal. Yellow gold is mixed with silver or other precious metal to produce a white gold ring. The final result is a beautiful shiny piece of a white gold ring. Besides white gold, another type of ring is very common. That is the rose gold engagement ring. The rose gold engagement ring has a beautiful coppery hue to it.

To conclude, white gold and platinum have been the most trending metals used for making rings for a long time. Do researches well about which type of ring you want, before buying platinum, white gold, or rose gold ring?
